Just a quick wave

I'm in England, Swanage exactly if this does tell you anything, right now(for the next three months) and, unfortunately, don't have the chance to access internet regularely. So this will be just a quick glance into my blog and the indie world to let you know I'm still there(if you even wondered) and apologize that I haven't blogged for such a long time. Actually, I'm working offline at a cool new post, already did some research for the bands, that I wnant to review the next time, that I'll have internet. Probably the daz after tomorrow, I'll go and search an internet cafe, if I don't have to work.
Anyway, I can't let you go without at least some music, but because I'm not using my own laptop, I can only give you something from my mp3-player, stuff that I listened to very much the last three or four days.

So, have fun where ever you are and wish me luck to find an internet access as quick as possible.

too tired for everything - oh wait...

are you tired

... not too tired for another mix for this wonderful but exhausting Thursday evening.
I'm finally back from my camping having spent the past days in suffocating heat, excessive downpour and compensating this with exorbitant alcohol consumption. This means, also regarding my post title, that I'm far too tired for a regular, long and detailed post so I'll just pick the lazy way. Besides, for a lack of sleep I find it quite difficult to concentrate right now.
Anyways, this mix contains most of the songs, that I wanted to post the past week(then-found-out, they-were-all-over-'blogland'), songs that I've been listening too quite insanely and simply bands that I think you listen to if you haven't already.

So here's a Thursday Evening Mix:

we shall hypnotise each and everyone of you!

Well, here I am, having finished my school career rather rough-and-ready than prosperous, concerning mere 13 years of school dominated by pure laziness. Having undergone the past week several festivities like the academic ceremony, the prom, and so on, I'm now indulging on my mini holdiday, before tomorrow I'll be heading for camping with my academic fellow sufferers. Another full four days of intoxicating my body with alcohol and cigarettes, but actually it's worth it after 13 years of mere boredom.
Anyway, the reason I'm blogging doesn't only concern my graduation, but some awesome bands that I've been listening to the past days.
bicycles!!!!!
Let's start with the exceedingly young indie group Bombay Bicycle Club from London. By the first active listen you'd think you'd accidentally marked a wrong artist in your music library and landed on a younger (!) Arctic Monkeys or Good Shoes version. The group, lead by singer Jack Steadman, has a similar song style as the above mentioned bands, broaching the issue of growing up, partys, drugs, girls, jealousy and thoughts about the world mainly in their songs. The band does very well on their instruments, very jangly, vibrant and hooky. Even though their sound does quite fit into the present wave of young indie guitar bands, the singer has a remarkable unique voice, very nosey and also very british, distinguishing himself from the existing pablum of indie singers.
The band has started it's career with the mere age of fifteen years old - oh wait, if you'd consider, that they now are only 17, that isn't very young, though - and having it almost 'settled' as they won at a band contest a gig on last year's V Festival, which is impressive. From there on Jim Abbiss(the very own producer of Kasabian, The Rakes and Arctic Monkeys) got ahold of them and they produced their first EP The Boy I Used to Be on BBC's own record label. The EP is out since early February 2007 and should be purchased here on mam store or downloads via iTunes or nettwerk.
My upshot for this band? I'd say, the band wouldn't need time to 'mature' or grow from adolescence into adulthood, because their rough, raw, sometimes coarse sound makes them unique and as the best example: did the Arctic Monkeys have to mature before their debut? You see, where I'm heading...
Here's some pre-taste of The Boy I Used to Be EP.

london, london

So, let's go on with another shamefully young, nevertheless still amazing new London-based indie pop band, The Svengalis. Aswell as Bombay Bicycle Club, the band still stands out of the current NME dominated indie garage music mush, that circles around London. As I started listening to them, I immediately recognized ther music and their sound, but from where? It's maybe their sound ressemblance to other major indie bands like The Rakes, The Rifles, somehow Libertines-esque, reminding me of th 60/70's guitar music. The sound is melodic and still rock enough not be defined as garage. I'd say, the band has the right feeling when to use the synthesizer and when to start off guitar riffs. Everything's catchy, crispy, harmonizing, fun, easy to listen to and sticky to the listener's ears. I wouldn't call their sound, their style, their songs totally unique, because in that way they don't differ that much from other bands of this present London indie clique floating on the new rave wave, but their music is still worthy to fill some indie dancefloors in London or somewhere else. I 've read some articles about them where the band were referred to the next Arctic Monkeys, concerning age, sound(!) aswell as band biogaphy, but that'll be to much of a hype in my opinion, besides the fact that the band members are still very, very young. I don't want to talk this band down, if this would be my intention, I wouldn't have posted about them. I just wanted to show you some nice young band. They make good dance music, they dres neatly and are worth at least one download(for money).
The Svengalis have released their first single called Sting In The Tale which was released via their very own label (!) Villans & Roques in March this year.
The band has also been featured in Lamaqc's radio session and the results can be found on their myspace profile. The band's own website is pretty shit(which the band admits, though), but they've listed a honorable amount of links where to buy their single. So, please check one of the following links to support the future, soon-to-be, next Arctic Monkeys in their early status.
Buy on Rough Trade, Piccadilly Records, Norman Records, Action Records, Crash Records, Pure Groove or Selectadisc.

So, coming to the end of my extraordinarily long post. Lately I remarked that I didn't do the posts as detailed and intense as I did a while ago. Ok, my finals and a good lack of time forced me to keep my posts short, so I decided to change that now. So, I hope you acknowledge my efforts...;))
Anyway, as I mentioned above, tomorrow I'm going camping with my friends for the next four days, so you've to stick with this post until Thursday or Friday.

-Oh and I you haven't noticed, I did some weak editing around my blog, but as soon as I have more time, I'll improve the layout for the indie dancefloor.
Have a nice week!

liberal, or what?

Anyways, I'm a huge sucker for extra-ordinary long and ravishlingy band names(or post titles), even more if the band makes great music and their name makes perfect sense in an abstract way... Such as The Strange Death Of Liberal England, a five piece indie folk group from... yeah right, from Portsmouth, England.
The band is due to release the single Oh Solitude on June, 25th via fantastic plastic records and I've decided to provide you with the video for the song:

Anyway, their mini album Forward March is extremely cool, not as amazing as their band name, but kicking butt, though. The record's due on July, 9th also via fantastic plastic records and check here to see when the download will be available.

Another dignified young band that has its record origin at fantastic plastic is The Victorian English Gentlemens Club from Cardiff and shares the patriotic band name allusion with TSDOLE. Their sound differ abit from the band above, their still indie folk, but with more uptempo beat and pshychy lyrics.
Enjoyed it. Ban The Gin is taken from their debut self-titled album which is out for quite a while and can be purchased through the label or through amazon.

pekler
aaaaaaaaaaaaand, to cool a bit off, California origin, but in Germany residing Andrew Pekler has a new record coming up called Cue which is out via kranky records since May 07 but will be released via Southern Records on July, 9th.
And the album? Well, it's massive, twanging, sometimes heavy, sometimes light, electronica mashed with guitars. Confused? Buy the record.

deceiving distractions

happily ever after

So I'm back after a week full of bands, music, rain and no time for blogging, for which I feel really sorry. Actually I shouldn't spend my time blogging, because my finals are only a few days ahead and the stuff I should be learning hasn't quite made it into my mind.

The Cribs - The White Stripes - Muse
some first impressions of Rock Im park 07

Anyway, how has been my festival weekend? It was very hot, very wet and absolutely f'ing amazing! I wasn't able to see all of the bands I've listet last week due to physical weakness, but it was f'ing awesome anyway. Especially the Muse concert was over the top. I'm such a huge sucker for Muse as I am for The Strokes, so I was completely freaking out by every song they played, every move that Matt Bellamy did on stage and every guitar solo he played(and those were quite a few). The Cribs have been freakingly amazing, too, at one o'clock in the afternoon, only 30-40 people around, having space to dance and jump, it was almost incredible. I recall the Kaiser Chiefs to have made a very entertaining show such as German rock band the Beatsteaks(for those who don't know about them, check out a concert) aswell as Mando Diao and The Fratellis. The only band that merely disappointed me were The White Stripes. What, The White Stripes???, you may be thinking, utterly shocked. Yes, their show was boring, unnerving.....- or maybe I was too exhausted or had too high expectations, I dunno. It simply wasn't as good asa medium White Stripes fan that I am would have expected.
Anyway I found two other exciting b-sides, whatsoever in my iTunes-library that I haven't posted last week for to me unknown reasons, so I'll do it now:
MP3: Kaiser Chiefs - Sink That Ship
taken from the I Predict A Riot Single
MP3: The White Stripes - Screwdriver

Anyway, it has been a very fun weekend, being happily distracted from my upcoming finals and the following mind-destroying partys afterwards. I should start learning right now, but:

donm't kill the cat
.... I can't let you go without something new or at least interesting to listen to.
The Indelicates have a new single coming up, called Julia We Don't Live In The Sixties.
You may know this band from their popular tune Waiting For Peter Doherty To Die with it's rather dodgy content and unexpected fame.Even though the band's opinion about a certain drug addict's right, I just can't get along with that song. So much the better they have other superiorly songs than the one above. Julia We Don't Live In The Sixties is one of them, aswell as Sixteen. Their sound lingers between straight indie rock, gospel and scottish patriotic theme likewise tunes, which makes it more unique than I first thought. The band had a German aswell as a UK EP release in January called The Last Significant Statement To Be Made In Rock and Roll which can be purchased here. I'll tell more about the single releases, when there are more information about it to be found.
So what there's left to say? Oh yeah, wait:
