5 songs I'm listening to on this tuesday

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

so, here I am again, after a mere week of non-posting, I finally got myself up to post at least something. I'm only doing a short one, because I'm sitting at a desk in my university and it's f'ing freezing, so my fingers hurt while typing. Yes, right now I'm pitiable. But enough of that, because I'm hungry and unfortunately there's nothing edible in front of me, which makes me a bit aggressive.
Nevertheless, I picked some songs for today, Kings Of Leon are classic, atleast Aha Shake Heartbreak and TJG, which is featured on it, are. Then we got Modeselektor, wishing me a late Happy Birthday - they actually did that already last week, but I couldn't upload them - anyway I looove Datarock's Computer Camp Love, amongst all the other tracks from Datarock, which I would probably take to that lonely island along with The Whip's Muzzle NO.1 and hopefully their upcoming album, which shouldn't be too long. And last, I got a track from Krafty Kuts, because I think I haven't posted something like that here.
Have fun:

MP3: Kings Of Leon - Taper Jean Girl
MP3: Modeselektor - Happy Birthday
MP3: Datarock - Computer Camp Love
MP3: The Whip - Muzzle NO. 1 (Shadow Dancer Rmx)
MP3: Krafty Kuts - Solid Feet

late sunday evenings

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
are possibly one of the worst evenings of the entire week, when you find yourself lying in your bed, nothing to do except checking your tv programme for some decent entertainment - but of course you'll be utterly disappointed. Luckily enough that I do not have to worry about getting up early the next day due to school or job attendance, which leads to a pestering feeling of being totally awake, so you can't fall asleep, which leads to being tired the next morning, etc etc. Sunday evenings suck, alright? At least in my opinion. Luckily for me, I do not have to spend my thoughts on those pointed out, because I won't be going back to my appartement tonight. I thought it was an approbriate time to start university the way I'm used to - by skipping lessons on the first week - there are more important things tomorrow than attending class - take the Maximo Park concert for example(of which I'm certian, I bore the hell out of you, but I'm sososooo excited). I'd actually wanted to say, that if you're residing in the vicinity of Wiesbaden, you should consider, why you haven't thought earlier of going to the concert, but, unfortunately, it's sold out. Maybe I'll just see you at The Hives concert on November, 3oth! Don't miss it.

Getting to why I actually am doing this post, Fine Day Records had sent the whole Plastic Operator album to review, which is a premiere on my blog. Nevertheless I'm impressed by the duo consisting Mathieu Gendreau and Peter Van Dessel, who hail from Montreal and Antwerp, but having met in London whilst studying. The album is called Different Places, has been released this day via Fine Day Records and is a very cool piece of electronic pop. The lyrics are euphonic thus sentimental and melancholic, coinciding neatly with the poppy synth melodies. Different Places is a continuous album without any musical lows, every song passes nicely into the next one. So far, my favourites are Folder, Peppermint, Parasols and Another Sound, and you can see, that I've posted the latters. Stylistic I would've put them between The Postal Service and a melancholic, more quiet SMD, even though that's a bit far-fetched, I hope you get what I mean....
So, if this sounds appealing to you, check out FDR for further information and head to Beatbort or amazon to purchase Different Places!

Alright, moving on:
After last weeks post about Friendly Fires, who had sent me some faboulous tracks, now comes Nic Nell, who has also done an excellent remix for the band named above. So speaking of him, Nic Nell sent a fast-paced electronic song called It's A Trance Off, which made it right into my ear. The song's also featured on Nic Nell's first single, which will be out via XL Recordings early next year.
So, if you like his song and the Friendly Fires remix, check out his myspace for further information!

MP3: Nic Nell - It's A Trance Off
MP3: Friendly Fires - On Board (Nic Nell's N-Tronica Remix)

Before I come to the end of my post, I thought of switching over to partyshuffle on my iTunes player to select a bunch of songs by random songs for a finishing misc mix. Meaning, there isn't any special purpose to these songs, just made iTunes pick them, because this is also an interesting way of putting a mini misc mix together, but mainly, I'm lazy.
Enjoy

MP3: Shitdisco - OK
MP3: Kings Of Leon - Slow Night So Long
MP3: Vincent Vincent and the Villains - Johnny Two Bands
MP3: The Appleseed Cast - Mountain Halo
MP3: Be Your Own Pet - Adventure
MP3: Black Lips - Everybody's Doin' It
MP3: Digitalism - Pogo (Mentalism Rmx)

what a pain in the ....

Yeah, it has been a hell of a week for me.
So what? Right now, I'm probably more than relieved- no wait, I'm jubilating!!! Why? First of all, I finally managed to register myself into my university, where I'll commence my studies in October. You see, I'm late, as usual. But owing to the fact that I'm one of those few cheeky bastards who are more than just brazenly lucky in.... well, everything, including winning university places where others have to apply the normal, bitter and sometimes unequably way. In addition, I accomplished to find an appartement, which is trully a massive achievement concerning my future hometown and it's housing shortage due to the colossal amount of students there. So, in less than three weeks, my embosomed laziness and sweet idleness will cease and I'll find myself again ignoring the piles of at least a dozen books that I have to read, all the work that should have been done already and not doing any of it. Which is to say, I'm not in the least concerned, I'm looking forward to it. I'm kinda easy-going in that way.
Anyway, I have recently noticed, that my rants about my poor life have diminished in this blog lately and not by reason of nothing's happening here - well, nothing really IS happening here, but that for f's sake i not the point! - but more because I totally forgot about it. I went through my older posts the other day and thought by myself, that has to start again. The idea of the indie dancefloor being just another music blog that merely talks about and reviews artists, well, alienates me. Kind of.
So, in the lack of anything to do, why not post some music. Because I'm in a hurry, because I'm lazy, because I have to research for my university, this won't be a long one.

Fink, Uk-based singer-songwriter has a new album coming up, called Distance & Time, which will be on sale here in Germany.. well, NOW - ............and in the Uk: on Monday.
Fink consists of songwriter Fin Greenall, being supported live by bassist Guy Whittaker and drummer Tim Thornton. Distance & Time is Fink's sophomore album, after having released his debut Biscuits For Breakfast in early 2006. Both records have been released on Ninja Tune and, here in Germany, on Rough Trade aswell.
So, how is Distance & Time? It's very folk, very lively and very melodic, kinda Bright Eyes-esque or Jens Lekman-like. It's the raining-on-sundays-and-I'm-feeling-alone- kinda thing - but it's actually good.
If you're into such things, don't waste anymore time and head straight forward to Ninja Tune, Amazon or Roughtrade!

From Distance & Time:

From Biscuits For Breakfast:

and guess who's back and I did notice that one mere month later? My dearest of all swedish, curly-haired singer-songwriters, Moneybrother!!!!
His third record Mount Pleasure was released in late August via Burning Hearts, but I had a damn good reason not reporting on it right away.
Anyway, Moneybrother still has a wondeful voice, his songs are still catchy and beautiful aaaaand yes, Anders Wendin ist still handsome.
So, if you're like, having suffered under a severe lack of internet or any kind of media communication, head over to amazon or Burning Hearts.
Moneybrother's 'new' single from Mount Pleasures:

MP3: Moneybrother - Just Another Summer
MP3: Moneybrother - It Might Aswell Be Now

From the 2005 album To Die Alone:

MP3: Moneybrother - Eventually It'll Break Your Heart

and from 2003's Blood Panic:

MP3: Moneybrother - The Pressure
MP3: Moneybrother - Golden Lonely

Before I go off to weekend activities, I'll let you take place in what I've been jamming to, amongst other things, during summer, isolated in windy, deserted Swanage, for old times sake:

MP3: Kings Of Leon - Razz
MP3: The Libertines - Death On The Stairs
MP3: Goose - Modern Vision
MP3: The Others - Lackey
MP3: Soulwax - E Talking

get all the tracks at iTunes or amazon.

ok, so maybe this post was longer than I said, so ok, I lied. Who cares. I'm off.
Have a nice weekend!

Damn Right!

bang bang

here I am again, back with another mix for your ears, this time with a special topic I thought of. Lately I noticed in my iTunes library, that I listened to a lot of albums and quite recent, but missed out one song of each album. I mean, when you really like an album or just can't stop listening to it, but there is always one song on it, whose-excuse for the lame example- the acne driven bass player- alright, but wouldn't have noticed it if he would have hidden somewhere. Alright, no offence against bass players, but still to draw the right image by using too many words as usual: most albums have exactly one song which could aswell have served as a hidden track or a b-side and you could as well go on listening and skip the song when ever it comes up.
So I've searched my iTunes to find some albums mostly from the last two years which I've listened till the music came floating out of my ears and picked the songs that I didn't care much for, but which are great nonetheless.
The whole reason behind is to set my mind on it, maybe fall in love with them afterall and it's different from all those b-sides, rareties mixes.
Oh and yes, I find it rather interesting, that the following mix just perfectly matches my blog name corresponding to an indie club night - and I don't care if the songs are coming from 'mainstream' indie bands such as Razorlight or Franz Ferdinand. I liked their records, that's it.

You are free to disagree:
[oh yeah, song for mp3 and artist for artist information]

MP3: The Good, The Bad & The Queen - Nature Springs
taken from the album 'The Good, The Bad & The Queen' (2007)

MP3: Art Brut - Modern Art
no,modern art doesn't make me want to rock out, funny nevertheless
taken from the album Bang Bang Rock'n'Roll (2005)

MP3: Kings of Leon - The Bucket
taken from 'Aha Shake Heartbreak' (2004)

MP3: The Kooks - If Only
yes, the band with the 14-year-old teen girlies fans, but I'm sure that everyone of you listened to it more than 20 times a week, when it was out, new and so indie ^^. Except for 'If Only'
taken from 'Inside In - Inside Out' (2006)

MP3: Dirty Pretty Things - Last Of The Small Town Playboys
Love the album, love Carl Barat, just like the song...
taken from 'Waterloo To Anywhere' (2006)

MP3: Mando Diao - Bring 'Em In
I had a strong Mando Diao phase earlier this year, they're sticking to quite a Hives-esque attitude à la 'We're great, you know it, we know it, more applause please'
taken from Bring 'Em In' (2004)

MP3: Maxïmo Park - I Want You To Stay
taken from ' A Certain Trigger' (2005)

MP3: Razorlight - In The City
Uh, yeah, Razorlight, .....Johnny Borrell....still hate myself self for having missed them.....song's alright
taken from 'Up All Night' (2004)

MP3: The (International) Noise Conspiracy - This Side Of Heaven
my post-punk outsider tonight. I like the fact, that 'Armed Love' gives me only one black sheep instead of their earlier work, who has a lot of 'skip-next-song's'
taken from 'Armed Love' (2004)

MP3: The Arcade Fire - Crown of Love
taken from 'Funeral' (2004)

MP3: Belle & Sebastian - Le Pastie De La Bourgeoisie
I..love...French...song...titles
taken from 'Push Barman To Open Old Wounds' (2005)

MP3: The Cribs - The New Fellas
My Cribs obsession is taking over lately, isn't it? It's justified, though. The bands great, the songs are great, only this one is alright and I am just fine.
taken from 'The New Fellas' (2003)

MP3: Franz Ferdinand - Cheating On You
I'm probably not the only one who hasn't got any strong feelings about this one.
taken from 'Franz Ferdinand' (2004)

MP3: The Libertines - Radio America
oh well, oh well.....
taken from 'Up The Bracket' (2002)

MP3: Muse - Dark Shines
I lurrrrrrrrrv' Muse. I love Matthew Bellamy. I just don't love Dark Shines.
taken from 'Origin Of Symmetry' (2001)

MP3: The Strokes - Vision Of Division
well, actually, the song is great, but I just don't forgive Julian having played that song on the three occasions I saw them last year instead of my all time favourite 'Soma' or Razorblade'. Damn you Casablancas!
I still love this band more than everything and am not a bit ashamed of it.
taken from 'First Impressions Of Earth' (2006)

MP3: Digitalism - Digitalism In Cairo
Alright, why put Digitalism on my blog if there are thousands of blogs who already feature Digitalism songs. Beeeeeeecause: I absolutely love this album and there are no, I repeat, no songs on it that I don't like. So I picked this on on a random purpose.
taken from 'Idealism' (2007)

Get all the songs at Juno or Amazon

Alright, so I leave you with my purely subjective choice of 17 (!)songs. If you don't agree, fell free to comment your opinion.
Maybe I should do another mix next time with the topic: Music everybody is going crazy over and I don't understand why.
Like Mr. Oizo's EP.
But enough for today.
Have a nice week.

A Certain Tune

Arctic Monkeys
so, as I promised, I'll give a detailed review of the new Arctic Monkey's album Favourite Worst Nightmare. My first impressions: quite surprised, being seduced by their latest single Brianstorm, which hacked itself into my ear and won't let me rest until my iTunes played it at least five times in a row. Concerning their "new sound", I'd prefer to say, that on the album are more parallels to their first record, than I thought, being lured by Brianstorm into a more square-egden illusion of sound. Nevertheless it's a great album, multi-sided and amazing. I've been listening to it since yesterday, not being bored at all. Do me a Favour reminds me a bit of Riot Van, even though it is more melodic and on-going than it's precursor. Flourescent Adolescent has quite a groovy tune and Teddy Picker the typical hip hop sound concerning Alex Turner's voice. Even tiny, but beautiful ballads like 505 creeped into the worst nightmares of the monkeys, a premier calls this MTV.(I choose to differ, because I'd call Mardy Bum quite a ballad,, maybe not a stereotype one, but a ballad.) All in all it's a fantastic albums, may be not what everyone had expected after their famous debut, but I can truly recommend to buy it. I've thought of presenting here my favourite tunes here to give you a slight preview. For those who haven't been running to their nearest local record shop should be doing this instantly or following the lazy method and ordering it on Amazon or iTunes.

MP3: Arctic Monkeys - Teddy Picker

MP3: Arctic Monkeys - Flourescent Adlescent

OK, going on with King of Leon, who released their third album Because of the times this Friday here in Germany. After their second album Aha Shake Heartbreak and the debut Youth & Young Manhood this is definitely a good developpment. This record surely demands more attention than the first ones, even beginning with seven minutes opener Knocked Up to introduce the oblivious listener to their newest baby.Caleb's, the vocalist, voice sounds even more crumbly and fragile than on the debut, making it more tensed. Cool record. Go and buy it. Here and here.

MP3: Kings of Leon - McFearless

MP3: Kings of Leon - On Call

feist
so, and last, but not least, Feist, one of my beloved female singers, has also released a new record called The Reminder, which is the second for her, following her debut album Let It Die from 2004. This is what I would call a piece of pure beauty Her amazing voice mixed with changing soft and faster tunes, all packed on one great album. I don't even have anymore words for it, than rund and buy it immediately. Or go to iTunes or Amazon.

MP3: Feist - My Moon, My Man

MP3: Feist - The Limit To Our Love

so, closing this post with another, very interesting song, that I found on this music blog. It's The Strokes' Take It Or Leave It covered by Arctic Monkeys! Wow, one favourite band of mine, covers a favourite tune of my ultimate favourite band.
I could say, that I couldn't be happier.

MP3: Arctic Monkeys - Take It Or Leave It (Strokes Cover)

Kings to Cologne

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Kings Of Leon are coming!!
For some reason, that excites me, even though I somnehow refused to listen to their songs so far. I have some mp3s on this PC, but... I dunno.
Still, they're coming to Cologne, on July, the 2nd.
Place: E-Werk, Cologne
Tickets: ca 31 € (pretty expensive, I think)
Chance to go: we'll see
I have that akward wish, to buy myself a ticket and see them, but I dunno why. I've never really listened to them. Maybe, I should get their albums first, before I do something, I'll regret later. They're having an album coming out soon, called "Because of the times" or something like that.
I mean, 31€ is a bit heavy, innit?
I'll think about it.
Links:

But one of them is hot.
The bassist.
Definitely a plus.
