no dance on saturday

no dance today

Whilst in the mid of last minute packing, I find some time to do some sort of good-bye sweet home post. I'm moving in like, half an hour and thought that I could do aswell another mix.
It's kinda weird, after having lived for the past 19 years in only one single place(Swanage doesn't count for me) now to finally move away. But it should be interesting.
For the past week, my blog has been quite electronica and dance dominated, well not yesterday's post, but most of the week. I needed to change this, because my blog shouldn't focus on only one musical genre. That'd be very boring.
So, today, it's mostly indie pop or indie folk that I could find in my iTunes library, except for Bromheads Jacket and yes, I couldn't resist, The Strokes. It's my good-bye post, so The Strokes are necessary. Sort of.
Enjoy!

MP3: Bedroom Eyes - Norwegian Pop
MP3: The Zutons - Pressure Point
MP3: Belle & Sebastian - I Don't Love Anyone

MP3: The Holloways - Two Left Feet

otherwise, see you next weekend!

Damn Right!

bang bang

here I am again, back with another mix for your ears, this time with a special topic I thought of. Lately I noticed in my iTunes library, that I listened to a lot of albums and quite recent, but missed out one song of each album. I mean, when you really like an album or just can't stop listening to it, but there is always one song on it, whose-excuse for the lame example- the acne driven bass player- alright, but wouldn't have noticed it if he would have hidden somewhere. Alright, no offence against bass players, but still to draw the right image by using too many words as usual: most albums have exactly one song which could aswell have served as a hidden track or a b-side and you could as well go on listening and skip the song when ever it comes up.
So I've searched my iTunes to find some albums mostly from the last two years which I've listened till the music came floating out of my ears and picked the songs that I didn't care much for, but which are great nonetheless.
The whole reason behind is to set my mind on it, maybe fall in love with them afterall and it's different from all those b-sides, rareties mixes.
Oh and yes, I find it rather interesting, that the following mix just perfectly matches my blog name corresponding to an indie club night - and I don't care if the songs are coming from 'mainstream' indie bands such as Razorlight or Franz Ferdinand. I liked their records, that's it.

You are free to disagree:
[oh yeah, song for mp3 and artist for artist information]

MP3: The Good, The Bad & The Queen - Nature Springs
taken from the album 'The Good, The Bad & The Queen' (2007)

MP3: Art Brut - Modern Art
no,modern art doesn't make me want to rock out, funny nevertheless
taken from the album Bang Bang Rock'n'Roll (2005)

MP3: Kings of Leon - The Bucket
taken from 'Aha Shake Heartbreak' (2004)

MP3: The Kooks - If Only
yes, the band with the 14-year-old teen girlies fans, but I'm sure that everyone of you listened to it more than 20 times a week, when it was out, new and so indie ^^. Except for 'If Only'
taken from 'Inside In - Inside Out' (2006)

MP3: Dirty Pretty Things - Last Of The Small Town Playboys
Love the album, love Carl Barat, just like the song...
taken from 'Waterloo To Anywhere' (2006)

MP3: Mando Diao - Bring 'Em In
I had a strong Mando Diao phase earlier this year, they're sticking to quite a Hives-esque attitude à la 'We're great, you know it, we know it, more applause please'
taken from Bring 'Em In' (2004)

MP3: Maxïmo Park - I Want You To Stay
taken from ' A Certain Trigger' (2005)

MP3: Razorlight - In The City
Uh, yeah, Razorlight, .....Johnny Borrell....still hate myself self for having missed them.....song's alright
taken from 'Up All Night' (2004)

MP3: The (International) Noise Conspiracy - This Side Of Heaven
my post-punk outsider tonight. I like the fact, that 'Armed Love' gives me only one black sheep instead of their earlier work, who has a lot of 'skip-next-song's'
taken from 'Armed Love' (2004)

MP3: The Arcade Fire - Crown of Love
taken from 'Funeral' (2004)

MP3: Belle & Sebastian - Le Pastie De La Bourgeoisie
I..love...French...song...titles
taken from 'Push Barman To Open Old Wounds' (2005)

MP3: The Cribs - The New Fellas
My Cribs obsession is taking over lately, isn't it? It's justified, though. The bands great, the songs are great, only this one is alright and I am just fine.
taken from 'The New Fellas' (2003)

MP3: Franz Ferdinand - Cheating On You
I'm probably not the only one who hasn't got any strong feelings about this one.
taken from 'Franz Ferdinand' (2004)

MP3: The Libertines - Radio America
oh well, oh well.....
taken from 'Up The Bracket' (2002)

MP3: Muse - Dark Shines
I lurrrrrrrrrv' Muse. I love Matthew Bellamy. I just don't love Dark Shines.
taken from 'Origin Of Symmetry' (2001)

MP3: The Strokes - Vision Of Division
well, actually, the song is great, but I just don't forgive Julian having played that song on the three occasions I saw them last year instead of my all time favourite 'Soma' or Razorblade'. Damn you Casablancas!
I still love this band more than everything and am not a bit ashamed of it.
taken from 'First Impressions Of Earth' (2006)

MP3: Digitalism - Digitalism In Cairo
Alright, why put Digitalism on my blog if there are thousands of blogs who already feature Digitalism songs. Beeeeeeecause: I absolutely love this album and there are no, I repeat, no songs on it that I don't like. So I picked this on on a random purpose.
taken from 'Idealism' (2007)

Get all the songs at Juno or Amazon

Alright, so I leave you with my purely subjective choice of 17 (!)songs. If you don't agree, fell free to comment your opinion.
Maybe I should do another mix next time with the topic: Music everybody is going crazy over and I don't understand why.
Like Mr. Oizo's EP.
But enough for today.
Have a nice week.

it's happened again

Seriously, I've renewed my sidebar, taking the easier side and reupped some new(or less new, whatever) albums that I think are wortht least three downloads if not the purchase of the whole record. There are some rather known albums, at least of those I have talked quite a while ago, like The Winter Sounds' Porcelain Empire(I've told you about them in this post), which is due in a month aswell as Help She Can't Swim, last time's post band. The Ponys, which I neglected at their release date some month ago but now really got into the album. Anyway, the point is, that I my guilty conscience bothered me so badly, that I wanted to lose at least two words about the albums.
But first, Dntel has a new remix on the website. It's cool and I HAD TO POST IT. Easy, seems it, but anyway. You may already know Dntel from his popular tune Umbrella or Dumb luck, which is also the latest Dntel album name.

zip: Dntel - Pump New Mix

see also Dntel's myspace.

Going on, Britain's lovely Black Wire have a new single coming up, called See The Blood/Brother We Had A Choice and will be released on May, 21th, means this Monday. To celebrate this, I first thought of posting the single, or at least one song of it, but then I changed my mind. I'd decided for two b-sides, who are qualitativly equal to the single songs.
Anyway, there you go.... and get all the tracks at HMV and have a look at their myspace.

MP3: Black Wire - Ungodly Hour
featured on the Hung Up Single

MP3: Black Wire - I Don't Feel Well
featured on the Smoke & Mirrors single

So, I'll mini-review the outstanding albums from my new music section:

Everybody's darling Interpol has a new album coming up, called Our Love To Admire, and I conclude right, that everyone knows about it, everyone has heard the single Heinrich Maneuver and probably thinks: Oh, another post about them.
Yes, it's another post about Interpol, but the band's awesome, the album's awesome and and and..... you get the point.
So, here's a track of their new album called Pioneer To The Falls ... Preorder the album through amazon, if you haven't already.

Coming up next: The Ponys. Another most-blogged about album, but yet deserved so. I guess everything has been said about the indie pop band and their record Turn The Lights Out, so have a listen, go download some mp3s at emusic or order the cd here.

Next, even more blogged-and-hyped-about debut of Simian Mobile Disco. Well, I'm not hyping, but the album Attack Decay Sustain Release ist still pretty good.
I'll better stop this.
Go preorder it here.

Last, but not least, Portugal The Man have a new record coming up(flooding everyone's myspace bulletins with this news), but my mind is still kept in their debut Waiter:You Vultures and I'm still mad at myself for not going to their concert last autumn. I mean, they're having a German tour this week, but due to a lack of money, a Portugal.the man concert will remain a dream. Damnit.
Here's a song from their debut, get any cds from the band on amazon.
For those who don't know yet, they're offering a free download at their myspace called Ruby Magic from their album It's Complicated Being A Wizard.

MP3: Portugal The Man - Guns...Guns...Guns

So, this has been a b-side dominated post(well, kinda) so I could just end this post with another b-side. If someone hasn't already noticed, I'm a huge Strokes fan, so the next step is pretty clear. Here's the b-side Hawaii live recorded at last year's Southside Festival.
Live and a b-side, I think this is really cool.

now, off to party.

A Certain Tune

Arctic Monkeys
so, as I promised, I'll give a detailed review of the new Arctic Monkey's album Favourite Worst Nightmare. My first impressions: quite surprised, being seduced by their latest single Brianstorm, which hacked itself into my ear and won't let me rest until my iTunes played it at least five times in a row. Concerning their "new sound", I'd prefer to say, that on the album are more parallels to their first record, than I thought, being lured by Brianstorm into a more square-egden illusion of sound. Nevertheless it's a great album, multi-sided and amazing. I've been listening to it since yesterday, not being bored at all. Do me a Favour reminds me a bit of Riot Van, even though it is more melodic and on-going than it's precursor. Flourescent Adolescent has quite a groovy tune and Teddy Picker the typical hip hop sound concerning Alex Turner's voice. Even tiny, but beautiful ballads like 505 creeped into the worst nightmares of the monkeys, a premier calls this MTV.(I choose to differ, because I'd call Mardy Bum quite a ballad,, maybe not a stereotype one, but a ballad.) All in all it's a fantastic albums, may be not what everyone had expected after their famous debut, but I can truly recommend to buy it. I've thought of presenting here my favourite tunes here to give you a slight preview. For those who haven't been running to their nearest local record shop should be doing this instantly or following the lazy method and ordering it on Amazon or iTunes.

OK, going on with King of Leon, who released their third album Because of the times this Friday here in Germany. After their second album Aha Shake Heartbreak and the debut Youth & Young Manhood this is definitely a good developpment. This record surely demands more attention than the first ones, even beginning with seven minutes opener Knocked Up to introduce the oblivious listener to their newest baby.Caleb's, the vocalist, voice sounds even more crumbly and fragile than on the debut, making it more tensed. Cool record. Go and buy it. Here and here.

MP3: Kings of Leon - McFearless

MP3: Kings of Leon - On Call

feist
so, and last, but not least, Feist, one of my beloved female singers, has also released a new record called The Reminder, which is the second for her, following her debut album Let It Die from 2004. This is what I would call a piece of pure beauty Her amazing voice mixed with changing soft and faster tunes, all packed on one great album. I don't even have anymore words for it, than rund and buy it immediately. Or go to iTunes or Amazon.

MP3: Feist - My Moon, My Man

MP3: Feist - The Limit To Our Love

so, closing this post with another, very interesting song, that I found on this music blog. It's The Strokes' Take It Or Leave It covered by Arctic Monkeys! Wow, one favourite band of mine, covers a favourite tune of my ultimate favourite band.
I could say, that I couldn't be happier.

Sounds like the strokes

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket-->The Dead Bohemes
says the Kulturpalast description.
My opinion: Yeah, somehow, they're right. The Dead Bohemes, do sound similar to my favourite band. Somehow, Germany itself managed to give the indie-scene an excellent rock band. Hard to believe, because Germany, from my point of view, can barely win an award concerning good indie-bands(excluding The Robocop Kraus, of course). Well, the quality of their songs on myspace isn't the best, but I'll look for something better on the internet, as soon as the A-Level will be over(Tomorrow!!!). However, I like the indifference, that the songs display, especially the voice, just likeThe Strokes have in theirs. Of course, this new band cannot reach up to the worlds-best rock band(yeah, they are!), but one has to see the things a bit more optimistic.
I think, this will be fine for a live gig.
This can only be a good sign, because them plus three other bands will be coming to Wiesbaden in about three weeks to the Fastbreak Festival II in April, 14th(-> see Live Eventualities).
Seems like another opportunity to spend the money, that i actually don't have, but can't hold me back to not give it to poor, little indie-bands.
yeah, I'm really looking forward to them.

Recent Mmmusic

so maybe I should be starting now with recent music, supporting my blog name.
I made a new playlist for my iTunes player, called "Faily New Mmmusic", listing newly downloaded music, that I always wanted to hear, but for some reasons never did. So I thought, I should let the world have a part in that, too. Anyway, I'm not learning for the A level tonight anymore, so why not. So far, I absolutely like The Long Blondes, Cansei de Ser Sexy and Whitest Boy Alive, but I'm not through yet, I'll tell tomorrow. As I'm thinking, I really wanted to listen to more new music, since I'v gotten so fixed on The Strokes last year, which is not a bad thing, but there need to be more in music then only The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys. Lately I (re)discovered Mando Diao's latest album "Ode To Ochrasy", that I ignored for some unknown reasons, from the day I got it until last week. Yeah, strange actions like these appear somehow very often, I ignore some band or a band's new album due to several reason(too popular, rather bad single, bad or too good critics, and so on) and then after some time and self-struggeling, I finally listen to it and absolutely LOVE it. Simple examples: The Strokes, The Kooks, Mando Diao(as mentioned above) and many more. So I'm trying to prevent that with downloading every bit of music and then listen to it without any prejudices. As open minded, I'm sure just to be so free- kinda. Muse are just saying the right words with the right sense in exactly the right moment. As I keep hearing the music coming from my new playlist, I also prefer Head Automatica, especially their song "Beating Heart Baby" which I got from my friend Isa, who made me a real cool CD containing Bloc Party's new album A Weekend In The City, TCTC, Brand New, etc.
I see now, that this post is taking me forever, but I simply seem to drift away as looking at the bands I listed so far. I could now start with stories about Bloc Party, but I need to go to bed soon, so I can learn at least a bit of Maths tomorrow. I just have to force myself. Anyway, i should be ending this post now, because I don't want to sit that long on The PC anymore.
So, here's the Playlist Vol.1:

  1. Beirut - Postcards From Italy
  2. Belle And Sebastian - Get me Away From here, I'm dying
  3. CSS - Meeting Paris Hilton
  4. Cold war Kids - Hang Me Up To Dry
  5. Danielson - Did I Step on Your trumpet
  6. The Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger
  7. Head Automatica - Beating Heart Baby
  8. The Long Blondes - Once And Never Again
  9. Marc Colline - Just Can't Get enough
  10. New Young Pony Club - Ice Cream
  11. Ratatat - Wildcat
  12. Ratatat - Seventeen Years
  13. Tegan and Sarah - My Number
  14. Union Of Knives - Evil Has Never
  15. Union Of Knives - Opposite Direction
  16. The Whitest Boy Alive

So, I'll do some diting on my myspace page(see here if interested) and then I'll be heading straight to bed.
Good night.
